Clinical Trial for Crohn's Disease
What is an example of a clinical trial for Crohn's disease?
A new phase III controlled, double-blind,
multi-center clinical trial
of anti-paratuberculosis antibiotic treatment has begun in Australia.
This novel treatment regime for
Crohn's disease is based on a
combination of antibiotics which are effective against bacteria of the
species Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis. This bacterium
causes Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Johne's Disease) in a wide range of
mammals, and has been detected in the intestines of people with Crohn's
Disease.
Previous uncontrolled phase II
clinical trials of anti-paratuberculosis
treatment for Crohn's Disease have found that a majority of Crohn's
Disease patients experience remission when treated with this
combination of drugs.
