QUESTION:
I know the ovaries are on the left and right side of my pelvic area.....
during ovulation my pain gets worse, but not as bad as during my period.
During ovulation, the pain is most severe in the middle, about 2-3 inches below
my belly button. Why there and not the left or right?
Is it symptomatic to have painful bowel movements and urination at other times
than during a period? Like, during ovulation? What about lower back pain
during ovulation? I've got all that now and it hurts so bad! It feels like
my pelvic area has been kicked around and I should be bruised on the outside.
Does this sound familiar? I'm seeing a gyn on Tuesday... all this is new to me
and I haven't been diagnosed but I know it must be endo. Actually I don't
think it's new, I just didn't have enough pain until recently to do anything
about it.
Pain remedies? Advil isn't cutting it. Heating pad? Lying/sitting in
certain positions?
ANSWER:
The times when I would get pain during ovulation and with bowel movements and
urination, was while I had cysts growing on one or both ovaries. Right now I
have several inside my left ovary and one large blood filled cyst on my left
ovary, I am having all the same pain you are describing.
As for help with pain, I find a heating pad or a long hot bath can help. Advil
doesn't help me. Standing always seems to be less painful for me than sitting
also.
The only OTC drug that works for me is Motrin IB. It's not working quite as
well as it use to but it still gives me some temporary relief. My doctor gave
me Vicoprofen (when I was diagnosed with a cyst and possible endo a week and a
half ago) but I haven't taken but one pill because it makes me sleepy and that
won't work when I have to work!
Stretching also gives some temporary relief to pain in the lower back and lower
stomach areas. I know it seems like the last thing you want to do but it does
work. Any exercise that stretches and moves the waist and hip areas repeatedly
seems to give some temporary relief also.
When at first I was reading your letter I assumed you had
(known) endo, until you said you think it is endo and you want to find out.
I get pain with BM and urination. sometimes I can't tell the difference. It
seems that those two tend to irritate my endo. If I wait too long to pee,
then my endo gets mad and I hurt for awhile afterwards.
Nutrition plays a big part. You have to (or at least try) eat healthy, drink
plenty of fluids, and exercise. Stretching while in pain, will loosen up the
area and help them to relax. I find that in pain, if I lay on my back with
my knees bent it helps, also if I lay in a fetal position.
Advil is a anti-inflammatory and will actually help your symptoms. I have
been prescribed 800mg tablets (4 Advil) to take, you may want to up your
dose and take it consecutively to ensure that it remains in your system. I
am not a doctor so ask before you up your dose!
