QUESTION:
I hope someone can help me figure out what's going on with me. Right now
I'm trying to find out what is causing these symptoms:
severe abdominal pain (sharp sometimes especially on upper left side of
abdomen, goes around to my lower back)
bloating (look like I'm pregnant, some days are worse than others)
constipation (this started recently)
blood in stool (GI doc test, not visible)
sharp stomach pains (normal endoscopy)
Now, the pain is constant and throughout my whole abdomen. The upper
left is still the worst and sometimes bowel movements are a new
experience in pain. If I sneeze, it hurts. If I pee, sometimes it hurts.
I can't use my abdominal muscles.
ANSWER:
I'm sorry to hear that you are having such a hard
time. I have endometriosis AND Crohn's Disease, have had 2
laparoscopies for the endometriosis, but was still having pain. My
ex-doctor was blaming all my problems on my endometriosis, and therefor
I went undiagnosed. At my yearly gynocological physical, my gyno
suggested that the pain may be from a bowel disease, because often the
symptoms are similar. After losing 40 lbs in 2 months, and going back
to my ex-doctor every two weeks, he finally scheduled me for a lower GI
and referred me to a GI doctor (only to humor me, I'm sure). The GI did
a colonoscopy and that is when my Crohn's was diagnosed.
Be forceful with your doctor and make him perform tests until they find
your problem. If you are unhappy with him (and it seems you are) or if
you feel he does not take you seriously, please find another doctor (I
did!). You need to have a diagnosis made so that you can begin to treat
your problem.
Feel free to contact me with any questions. One quick thing though - I
never had endometriosis pain in the upper abdomen - it was always lower
(near the ovaries) front and back. But it can be different for
everyone, since it can be located anywhere....
operation
(she won't tell) but when they opened her up
a lot of the organs you'd expect lower were pushed further up so the pains
weren't where they were supposed to...are all your organs where they're
supposed be? That sounds totally wierd - sorry it's late and I've been up since
5am ...
I'm having a Upper GI with small bowel follow thru tomorrow morning
(yay) to look for Crohn's in my small bowel. My symptoms have gotten
worse and I'm now not really eating. I have no appetite, diarrhea if I
DO eat, foul smelling poop (gag), and gurgily sounds that sounds like I
have the Atlantic ocean in there when I manage to eat a few spoonfuls of
something. The pain is above or at the same level as my belly button
with discomfort lower down. I also have lower back pain big time.
Since the colonoscopy things have been generally worse too. I feel
better not eating. I can handle applesauce, dairy is ok, bread of all
kinds cause pain (is that fiber I guess?), broth goes down fine. I
haven't eaten much meat lately so I don't know how that goes. I don't
know if I should try to eat things right now. I don't want to hurt
things down there more than they are.
I still dont' know if it's bowel endometriosis or Crohn's and both are
really horrible so I decided it isn't either one. ;-)
My bfriend's friend has Crohn's (he says it sounds like I have Crohn's)
and he has a great doc so I'm going to go to him no matter what.
